After 16 years of grit, glory, and unforgettable moments, Derrick Rose officially announced his retirement from the NBA on Thursday, September 26, 2024. The former MVP, who’s graced six cities with his talent — Chicago, New York, Cleveland, Minneapolis, Detroit, and Memphis — shared his farewell through full-page ads in each city’s local newspaper. In a statement to ESPN, Rose said, “Knowing that I gave my all to the game, I feel confident in my decision. Basketball was just the beginning for me. Now, it’s important that I give my all to my family — they deserve that.”

Injuries plagued him throughout his career, leading many to question if he’d ever return to form. Yet, time and time again, Rose proved doubters wrong.
