It’s Women’s History Month, and we need to have a real conversation about what’s going on. As I scroll through my timeline, I’m seeing a lot of self-congratulatory posts and lowkey shade disguised as celebration. But let’s be real – is this what Women’s History Month is really about?
Y’all, we’ve got to address the elephant in the room. These events and social media posts are starting to feel like another competition, another way for us to tear each other down instead of lifting each other up. It’s like we’re all in a job interview, trying to spin our “weaknesses” into strengths. But here’s the tea: true strength comes from authenticity.
Let me tell you, I’ve seen both sides of this coin in the music industry so far. There are women who are genuinely happy to connect, collaborate, and celebrate each other’s wins socially, in-person, word of mouth etc. But then there are those who give off that mean girl energy, trying to dim your light or put you on some invisible blacklist sneakily. We’ve got to ask ourselves: what kind of women do we want to be in this industry?
