Hip-Hop Star A$AP Rocky Acquitted in Hollywood Shooting Case After Facing 24 Years In Prison
A$AP Rocky walked free from a Los Angeles courtroom yesterday, beating charges that could have sent him to prison for up to 24 years. The verdict? Not guilty on all counts.
Watching the video of a packed courtroom, the tension was THICK. When the clerk read out “not guilty,” the room erupted. Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, leapt from his seat and into the arms of his lady, Superstar Rihanna. Tears flowed, supporters cheered.
The case stemmed from a November 2021 incident where Rocky was accused of shooting his former friend and A$AP Mob member, Terell Ephron (aka A$AP Relli), during a confrontation in Hollywood. The prosecution painted it as a friendship gone sour, with tensions boiling over a misunderstanding about funeral expenses for another A$AP member Yams (RIP).
But Rocky’s legal team successfully argued reasonable doubt, and the jury agreed. After just three hours of deliberation, they acquitted the rapper of two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm.
This verdict is more than just a personal victory for Rocky. It’s a win for hip-hop culture, which has long been scrutinized and often unfairly targeted by the justice system but most importantly his family. I’m rarely in support of a man…
