Could There Be Toronto R&B Drama? PartyNextDoor and Tory Lanez’s Brief Beef Highlights Missed Opportunities
Everyone should know by now Toronto is filled with highly talented artists, two of Toronto’s finest R&B artists just narrowly avoided a potentially explosive beef. PartyNextDoor and Tory Lanez, both heavyweights in the Canadian music scene, found themselves at the center of a short-lived drama that left me wondering: why can’t our hometown heroes just get along?
The incident kicked off when PartyNextDoor, known for his Sauga City R&B, took to Instagram Live to air out some grievances. In a heated moment, PND played a snippet of an unreleased track, taking aim at fellow Canadian native Tory Lanez. The lyrics were zesty and personal: “F*ck what Tory Lanez say… I’m running that… I did everything he did he’s just a running man… drama man… I’m the daddy let me slap you okay.”
But what sparked this sudden outburst? It seems PND was reacting to a recent statement from Lanez, who’s currently serving time for a 2020 shooting incident. Lanez had mentioned PND, along with Drake and The Weeknd, as inspirations for his upcoming prison-recorded album. What should have been a compliment somehow got lost in translation, leading to PND’s fiery response.
