Add Some Strings But Make It Hip Hop — The Lox Tiny Desk Concert
There’s something timeless about seeing a hip-hop group transcend the genre’s boundaries, and The Lox’s NPR Tiny Desk Concert was nothing short of magical. As someone who’s been a fan since their early days, watching Sheek Louch, Styles P, and Jadakiss perform with a live band was a revelation. They opened with “All For The Love,” a track that instantly took me back to the essence of 90s hip-hop. The second track, “Recognize,” flowed seamlessly, showing the undeniable chemistry that has kept them strong for decades.
“Good Love” was the third song on the setlist, and it was here that the band truly shined. Including strings and live instrumentation brought a new depth to the performance. Special shoutout to their background singer, Le’Asha Julius, whose voice added a beautiful layer without overshadowing the group. She found the perfect balance, enhancing each song with her presence.
